Learners, families and staff came together for our third annual Celebration of Learning, held at the beautiful Thirsk Racecourse.
The event was a wonderful opportunity to recognise the achievements of our learners and staff. Everyone enjoyed a day of awards, fun activities, great food and even some magic from a magician.
William, from our Hambleton campus, received the Most Improved Learner Award.
When William first joined Northallerton PLC, William found it difficult for him to engage with learning and often found it challenging to connect with others.
Today, William is a completely different young man. With the support of staff and a safe learning environment, he has grown in confidence and now takes an active part in college life. He particularly enjoys ICT and cooking, where he has developed a talent for baking.
William is a kind and supportive friend, regularly helps staff and enjoys meeting people in the community. He has also challenged himself to try new experiences, including indoor climbing.
Selby learner Kasey was awarded the Progression into Employment or Further Education Award.
Kasey joined PLC in 2022 after facing challenges in education. Since then, she has worked hard to build her confidence and independence, gradually progressing to a full five-day programme.
This year, Kasey began volunteering at her local Dementia Café, where she quickly became a valued member of the team. Her kindness and positive attitude earned her the title of Star of the Week and a feature in the café's newsletter.
Her success led to a second volunteering opportunity at the Sing Along Café, where staff were delighted with the contribution she made.
Kasey's journey has been inspiring to watch. Her hard work, commitment and growing confidence have helped prepare her for the next step, and staff believe she is ready for a Supported Internship next year.
Staff achievements were also recognised during the event.
Scarborough Campus Manager Carl received an award for his outstanding leadership and support.
From the moment he joined PLC, Carl made a positive impact, bringing energy, humour and a natural ability to connect with learners. As Coordinator of the Scarborough hub, he leads a large team and supports a growing number of learners.
Carl is known for being approachable, understanding and supportive. Staff value his empathy and encouragement, while learners benefit from the positive atmosphere he helps create every day.
Much of Carl's work happens behind the scenes, but the difference he makes is felt across the whole centre. His compassion, positivity and commitment to both learners and colleagues make him a truly deserving winner.
