There’s some new life at the Harrogate Campus, but it’s not people, it’s ducklings.
Learners have been busy hatching duck eggs as part of a hands-on project exploring life cycles, responsibility and animal care. From setting up the incubator to checking temperatures and tracking progress, they’ve been involved every step of the way.
Excitement grew across the centre as the eggs began to crack and the ducklings finally made their appearance, with learners and staff following the journey together.
Caring for the ducklings has helped learners build patience, concentration and confidence. Even those who can find classroom learning challenging have been fully engaged, taking pride in looking after the new arrivals.
The project has also sparked plenty of conversation, with learners keen to share updates and compare notes. As well as supporting learning, it’s been a great boost for wellbeing, and a memorable experience for those preparing to transition next year.

“Well this is just amazing, look at what our eggs did. We’ve been talking to them with staff and it’s like they know us already, they run up to us for cuddles. They are cuteness overload; I can’t stop smiling.”
